Have you registered with the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS)?

Published on: Tuesday 1st July 2025

The Foreign Influence Registration Scheme comes into effect from 01 July 2025. The scheme is a major step in protecting our democracy and society.

The political tier requires those carrying out political influencing activities on behalf of a foreign power to register their activities.

The enhanced tier requires the registration of a wide range of activities carried out on behalf of Russia and Iran.

Registering an arrangement does not mean it is illegitimate, or must cease. Indeed, those declaring their links to foreign powers are supporting the resilience of the UK and its institutions in the face of state threats.  There is a three month grace period for those in registerable arrangements when the scheme comes into force. You can find more information about FIRS here and see business and industry guidance here or contact the FIRS team: FIRS-General-Enquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk
